The IRS is warning against a few tax scams that you should be aware of.
- Fake emails from the IRS, the IRS’s first contact with you will NEVER be in the form of an email; you will get correspondence in the mail.
- Beware of offers that are “too-good-to-be-true”, such as guaranteed refunds, free money to complete a survey, or large tax loopholes.
- Be extremely careful when using public Wi-Fi connections, never file your tax return or do banking on public Wi-Fi, there are people out there with open Wi-Fi hotspots that can steal your data. If you think your financial information has been compromised there are steps you need to take with your bank, with the IRS, and with credit bureaus.
